Research on short film festivals!

Research on shot film festivals!

Who makes short films?
-People who are starting off in the film industry

-Students for school projects

Why are short films made?
-To pursue a message to the audience

-For comedy and entertainment reasons

-Experience- you might want to experiment with pulling a team together to make a story on film.

-A show reel- if you want to be pursuing a career in film making and want to demonstrate your skills, producing a short film will be a good stepping stone.

 How is it funded?
-Funding sources:
-UK FILM COUNCIL/ BRITISH FILM INSTITUTE

-SHORT FILM FILIMING GUIDE

-NATIONAL AND REGIONAL SCREEN AGENCIES

-LOCAL COUNCILS – local councils will often pull money towards a short filmmaking initiative, especially if it deals with social exclusion or aids the local community in some way.

CHARITIES- a number of charities fund short films as some organisations are interested in funding films that are linked to the topic/goal of the film.

PRODUCTION SCHEMES AND COMPETITONS- There are various schemes produced by broadcasters and other organisations that produce a series of shorts such as the BBC NEW MUSIC SHORTS, and CHANNEL 4/ UK FILM COUNCIL CINEMA EXTREME SCHEMES.

How can short films be distributed?
-Short films can be distributed online such as Youtube as if films reach there, then it will soon spread like wildfire reaching many views from the audience.

-Social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook will gain recognition of the film by releasing and spreading the word of the film and by directing the link to social networking sites will automatically gain lots of views as so much people use social networking sites.

-The internet also allows a range of views and opinions on the feedback of the film.

-The Tv- If your short film is of high quality, a television channel may screen it, especially if it fits into a slot with other short films.

- The cinema- One of the hardest place to get a short film screened, but cinemas also run short film festivals.

-Festivals- A great opportunity to get your film on the big screen, watched by an audience of industry people and by filmmaking peers.
